Bolivia - Chiropratique SF News Compassion and Happiness
2010-03-07 Chiropractors Jean-Guy Parr, Mario Bélanger and Richard Bilodeau went to Bolivia from
November 15 to 29, 2009 accompanied by ten students in their final year from the
Department of Chiropractic at the Université du Québec in Trois-Rivières—Marie-Ève
Fournier, Rizlane Abdelfadel, Rémi Lavoie, Kindah Haddad, Jonathan Raymond, Jean-
Philippe Bélanger, Jean-Alexandre Charland Boucher, Étienne Richard, Anne-Michèle
Bérubé, and Alexandra Ladouceur. Based in Cochabamba, the team treated more than 1500
people while they were there.
“This first mission in Bolivia has been an extraordinary experience forme that will remain
forever engraved in my memory as a great humanitarian initiative. This venture has
enriched me and is now a part of my professional life which I am eager to share with my
patients and colleagues”, was how Dr. Richard Bilodeau summed it up on his return from
that mission. He noted that most of the people treated displayed weakened posture
because they do not know how best to use their strength to carry or move heavy objects.
Dr. Mario Bélanger and Dr. Jean-Guy Parr for their part observed that much of the pain
they dealt with was the result of injuries that were
never treated or had healed badly.
“But judging from the smiling faces and cheerful
expressions they had after treatment, the results
have been incredible. They told us we hadmagic
hands. I came away feeling a lot of compassion
and personal happiness fromhelping those
less privileged”, says Dr. Bélanger.
Étienne Richard, a student in his final
year, sums up what the strength of this
experience has been for him: “Love,
compassion, joy, and human contact
are the best ingredients for change
and healing.”
